We found no published human trial showing that liposomal NMN raises blood NAD+ more than plain oral NMN, and the one human trial of sublingual NMN found no difference in blood NAD+ against swallowed NMN. What the human evidence says about liposomal and sublingual NMN
Liposomal NMN wraps NMN in tiny fat-based spheres, usually made from sunflower lecithin. The idea is that the coating helps NMN survive the gut and reach the blood. It is a reasonable idea, and it has been tested in cells and animals and in lab work on delivery systems. We searched PubMed on 24 October 2026 for liposomal NMN studies in people and the results were all laboratory or animal work, with no human trial that compares liposomal NMN with plain NMN. Some sellers cite small unpublished or company-run studies. We have not found one that has been through peer review.
Sublingual NMN, a powder held under the tongue, has one controlled human trial. In 2026, researchers at Meiji Holdings gave 14 healthy men NMN both under the tongue and by swallowing, in a crossover design with a washout week between. Over the 60 minutes after dosing, blood NMN, nicotinamide and NAD+ did not differ between the two routes. Two breakdown products, 2PY and 4PY, rose faster with the sublingual dose, and the authors could not say whether that came from NMN. The trial was funded by the company, which employs three of its authors, and it was short. You can read it on PubMed and PMC.
The evidence for plain oral NMN is better. In a multicentre randomised trial of healthy middle-aged adults, capsules of 300, 600 and 900mg a day raised blood NAD+ over 60 days (Yi et al., GeroScience 2023). A smaller trial in older men found the same after 12 weeks of 250mg a day (Igarashi et al., npj Aging 2022). So the swallowed capsule already has human data for raising blood NAD+. That supports cellular energy and NAD+ levels, and that is all we claim for it.

What a liposomal capsule gives you for the money
The price gap is easier to read once you look at the dose. The three liposomal products in our index hold far less NMN per pack than a plain capsule pack does: 22.5g, 15g and 7.5g. Their doses are 125 to 250mg per capsule, so a daily serving of 250 to 500mg takes two capsules. That is why the cost per gram of NMN is where to compare them. A pack that looks like £50 for 60 capsules is £6.67 a gram when it holds 7.5g of NMN.
Whether a lower dose in a liposome does the work of a higher plain dose is the question nobody has answered in a published human trial. Until someone does, the liposomal premium rests on a mechanism and not on a result.

Sublingual powder runs from £0.83 to £2.50 a gram depending on pack size, and you measure each dose. So is liposomal NMN worth it?
On the evidence we can find, the extra cost buys a delivery idea, not a measured gain in blood NAD+. At a median of £5.00 a gram, you pay more than three times the median for plain capsules, and no published human trial shows you get more for it.
